Pickles proud to help Variety raise $184K for Australian kids

Wheels have now stopped on the 2026 Variety Adventure Ride, after the event went off without a hitch last week. Taking place from September 13 - 18, the annual event hosted by Variety - The Children’s Charity, is a beloved mark on the calendar for the team at Pickles. 

The 2026 ride was a great success, with the riders who ventured through scenic Australian hinterland raising a staggering amount of $184,000. These vital funds will go directly to supporting Australian children who are sick, experiencing physical or financial disadvantage or living with disability. 

As a major sponsor of the event, the team at Pickles prepared through 2026 to give a hand to Variety as they organised their highly successful ride. The biggest contribution Pickles often makes to the event is lending Nick Johnson, General Manager for Salvage. 

Pickles alum, Nick Johnson, is a veteran of Variety Adventure Ride and has worked with the organisation for many years on a range of charitable initiatives. This year, Nick’s fundraising for the event led him to be the highest individual fundraiser for the event, contributing more than $47,000 to the cause. Nick said of the 2026 ride:

“This year’s event was the best yet, in my opinion. Everyday was something different, from the beautiful countryside, to challenging tracks and terrain. The most important thing about the adventure is that it takes you to meet the kids and the smiles on their faces makes the journey all worth it. It was a record amount raised this year and I can’t wait to try and top it again next year.”

Nick was one of 27 riders who hit the road on Sunday, 13 September, all of whom were supported by 18 Variety volunteers consisting of a team of paramedics, support vehicles, and mechanics who served to make sure everyone made it to the finish line safely. 

This year’s 6-day event took riders through the rugged Southern Highlands, across the mountain peaks of the Great Dividing Range, and down to the wild shoreline of the Sapphire Coast. The ride concluded with a finish line in Berrima, which the adventurers crossed while covered in dirt but strengthened by mateship.
