From booking in assets to heading up the operations department in Archerfield, Rhys has taken every challenge head on. He is also now the Innovation Champion for his branch.
What has your career path been like?
My first role at Pickles was as a Booking In clerk. From there I moved into General Goods and I.T, eventually becoming the Auction Co-Ordinator. This then evolved into Auction Co-Ordinator for General Goods, I.T and Trucks and Machinery. My Current Role at the Eagle Farm Branch is Operations Manager.
How has Pickles supported that?
Pickles has easily been the best company I have had the pleasure to work for, they have supported me and backed me with all my goals and ambitions.
What is your day to day role like?
Every day is different, I love the interaction I have with staff, buyers and everyone else. I oversee the operational staff and ensure that they have what they need to complete their day to day activities.
You are the Innovation champion for your branch. What does this involve?
Looking for new ways to do old jobs in an ever evolving world. Things change and the way we did a task even two years ago has changed. I like to sit down with my staff, colloborate and come up with ideas on the best way forward. We get all our ideas on the table, no matter how crazy it is and find a way to make everyone's job easier and more efficient. Pickles has always supported these ideas and is willing to try new things. I think that is a big part as to why Pickles is so successful, we don’t do the same thing over and over again, we try new things, move forward and evolve.
You regularly work on major auctions. What does that involve?
Working on major auctions is one of the best parts of the job, whether it is at the branch or elsewhere, I find it really brings the team closer together. Everyone knuckles down and gets the work done, working together for a common target. You also get to operate so many different machines and trucks, meet new people and listen to lots of storie. You get to be hands on and come auction day you have that feeling of satisfaction that you set this up, and you get instant feedback of how you performed.
What’s next?
I would love to stay with Pickles for another 10, 20, 30yrs. Great people and great company. I'm always willing to learn and develop new skills. With the move into Asia, I'd love to take advantage of the opportunities offered and move upwards.
